Our Rustic White Oak Plank Flooring
Our Best Selling Species of Wood Flooring
White oak is a beautiful species of flooring and can be an especially excellent choice for pet owners*. These rustic planks are a bit harder than red oak, and when finished in European oil, they can produce a very forgiving floor that is easy to maintain.
White oak plank flooring has fantastic graining, knots, saw kerfs, and sap lines and are unusually long for rustic planning, ranging from 4 feet to 13 feet and are kiln dried to 6-8% for stability. Though most commonly purchased in 6-inch widths, our white oak planks are available in 6, 7, and 8-inch widths. Planks over 7 inches must be top nailed with colonial rosehead nails or fastened with screws and plugs.
Our farmhouse hardwood floors are almost indistinguishable from reclaimed, re-milled white oak planking, but are available at a much lower price. Our rustic planks work with a wide range of styles and are well suited for pets and active households. They are tongue and grooved on the edges for traditional edge nailing, but most of our customers think these planks are best installed with traditional 18th-century rosehead nails.
Rosehead nails are optional on 6-inch planks, but we strongly recommend them for installing wider planks. The oil finish we use can be spot repaired so that any severe damage can be quickly repaired. As with all of our farmhouse hardwood floors, we recommend pet owners keep nails trimmed and place their food and water bowls on a waterproof mat.
- Hand cut or squared and softened top edges
- Selective distressing in the form of circular saw marks, wormholes, and ax marks at no extra charge
- Stair treads, bullnose edges, and tapered thresholds
*No white oak plank flooring is pet “proof.” However, our customers’ experience with the oiled rustic white oak and animals is outstanding. White oak is tough, and the rustic nature of the wood hides many marks that a pet will add to the floor and hand-cut edging will hide them even better.
